Circular silver medal with integral loop for ribbon suspension; the face with the head of King Vittorio Emanuele III facing right circumscribed 'VITTORIO EMANUELE III RE D’ITALIA', signed 'L. GIORGI'; the reverse inscribed 'GUERRA ITALO-TURCA 1911-1912' within a circular laurel wreath; maker's mark a crowned 'Z' for the Regio Zecca (Royal Mint) below; on replaced correct ribbon with '1911-1912' bar.
The medal was instituted by Royal Decree 1144 on 6 September 1913 and awarded to the expeditionary force, colonial troops and attached civilians who served in Libya after 18 October 1912, date of the Peace Treaty with the Ottoman Empire. The medal was manufactured in silver by th Region Zecca but various other private versions in silver, silvered bronze and bronze are known. A good example.
