Dark bronze Greek cross with loop and original triangular ribbon suspension; the face with the cipher of the Italian Republic on the upper arm, an upright sword with oak branch on the lower arm, the lateral arms inscribed ‘AL VALORE MILITARE’; the reverse with a central five-pointed star on a rayed background; on original ribbon. The Cross was instituted by Royal Decree 1480 on 17 October 1941 to be awarded for military valour. After the disestablishment of the monarchy following the referendum of 1946, a revised version was instituted by Decree 773 of the Italian Republic on 8 September 1949, of which this is a good example.
