Circular bronze medal with eyelet for ribbon suspension; the face with a map of East Africa surmounted by the spirit of the Tiber pouring water from a pitcher, a radiant fasces to the right, circumscribed ‘6A DIVISIONE CC. NN TEVERE’, knots of Savoy between the words, signed ‘DE MARCHIS’ at the base; the reverse with a column inscribed vertically ‘MUSSOLINI’ before the Coliseum, six upright Roman swords in clenched fists in the foreground, inscribed (from left to right) ‘FASCI ALL’ESTERO’, ‘COMBATTENTI’, ‘MUTILATI’, ‘ARDITI’. ‘VOL. DI GUERRA’ AND ‘STUDENTI UNIV.’ (Fascists Abroad, Combatants, War Wounded, Storm Troops, War Volunteers and University Students), circumscribed above ‘MOLTI NEMICI MOLTO ONORE’ (Many Enemies Much Honour), a knot of Savoy at the top; slight age oxidisation marks; lacking ribbon (we understand this was plain black). The 6th Blackshirt Division ‘Tiber’ was founded on 7 August 1935. It was reviewed by the King on 13 December 1935 and left Naples on the S.S. Sardinia the following day, landing at Mogadishu on 29 December 1935 and subsequently fighting in Somalia, Eritrea and Ethiopia.
