Circular bronze medal with loop for ribbon suspension; the face with a hand emerging from floodwaters reaching up to another hand, storm clouds and lightning overhead, ruined buildings in the background, the five-pointed star of Italy centrally; the reverse with the arms of the Italian Republic centrally circumscribed ‘BENEMERENZA’ (well merited) and ‘INTERVENTI PER PUBBLICHE CALAMITÀ’; on original ribbon. The medal was created to reward participation in the rescue operations relating to the earthquakes and floods to which Italy is prone.
