Five-pointed red enamel gilt-edged star imposed on a rayed circular plaque; the face with a circular central silvered medallion bearing the running uniformed figure of an army officer, a pistol in his right hand, his left arm raised urging his men forward, a tank and aircraft beyond, a red and blue enamel banner above inscribed ‘for the Fatherland’ in Korean characters; the reverse with the name of the order and the class (‘2’), with vertical pin for wear; height 57.45mm (2.26 inches); weight 55.05 grams (1.94oz). The order was instituted on 7 July 1950 in two classes to recognise outstanding leadership by military commanders on the field of battle. The 1st class award was for commanders at division and brigade level, the 2nd class, as here, was for commanders at regimental, brigade and company level. A very good example of a rare order.
