Small miniature gilt medal with eyelet and loop for suspension; the face with the head of Eugène Louis Jean Joseph Napoléon, Prince Imperial, facing left, circumscribed ‘NAPOLEON L.L.J.J. PRINCE IMPERIAL’; the reverse inscribed ‘SERGENT / AU / 1ER REGT / DES / GRENADIERS / DE LA / GARDE’ within a laurel wreath; diameter 12.93mm (0.51 inch); without ribbon. The medal was issued to commemorate the promotion of the Prince Imperial in the 1st Grenadier Regiment of the Imperial Guard to the rank of Sergeant. The Medal dates from the mid-1860s.
