Circular silvered metal medal with claw and fixed ribbon bar suspension; the face with the Nepalese Himalayan Mountains centrally, the Royal Headdress above, crossed kukris below, a Nepalese inscription at the base; the reverse with a view of Pashupatinath Temple, Kathmandu centrally, circumscribed in Nepali characters; on original ribbon. The Decoration was instituted in 1966 to be awarded for merit. Pashupatinath Temple in the eastern part of Kathmandu is dedicated to Lord Shiva and was the seat of the Nepalese national deity, Lord Pashupatinath, in the days before Nepal became secular. The Temple is a UNESCO World heritage site and place of pilgrimage. The Decoration is no longer awarded, the Nepalese monarchy having been abolished in June 2008, and is rare.
