Miniature gilt-bronze cross pattée with rays between the arms, giving the appearance of a square, with integral suspension loop; the face with a four-blade propeller imposed on the cross; the reverse plain; diameter 24.96mm (0.98 inch); on original ribbon. The Cross was instituted on 2 July 1926 to be awarded to members of the Armed Forces of the United States for ‘heroism or extraordinary achievement while participating in an aerial flight’. A good older example.
