Miniature circular coppered bronze medal with eyelet for ribbon suspension; the face with the Hessian crown centrally, circumscribed ‘Treue Dienste’ (Faithful Service) above and ‘Reserve Landwehr’ below; the reverse inscribed ‘Landwehr- / Dienstaus- / zeichnung / II. Klasse’; diameter 16.28mm (0.64 inch); on a correct paper representation of the ribbon. The Award was instituted by Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig on 30 July 1913 ‘für Alle, welche ihre Dienstpflicht in der Reserve und Landwehr erfüllt und einen Feldzug mitgemacht haben’ (for all who fulfilled their service in the Reserve or Territorial Army and took part in a campaign). The Medal replaced the previous Award which was of buckle (Bandschnalle) form and was itself suppressed at the end of World War I in 1918.
