Oval silvered medal on gilt swivel crown suspension; the face with a central oval black enamel medallion bearing an imposed gilt beehive on crossed spade and hammer within a red enamel border, circumscribed ‘HABILETE MORALITE’ and ‘BEKWAAMHEID ZEDELIJKHEID’ (Skill and Morality in French and Flemish languages) within a border of blue enamel laurel leaves, a silvered escutcheon above bearing the Belgian lion rampant, a belt and buckle below; the reverse plain; on original ribbon with rosette for the ‘gold’ class.
The Decoration was instituted as long ago as 7 November 1847 as the Industrial and Agricultural Decoration. It was reformed in 1958 when it adopted both its present name and the present form of the insignia.
The second ‘silver’ class is awarded for 25 years’ service in agriculture or industry and the first ‘gold’ class for 30 years.
