Bronze pentagonal medal with integral bar for ribbon suspension; the face with two crossed forearms with a lateral chain, flames beyond; the reverse inscribed ‘REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE MEDAILLE DE LA DEPORTATION ET DE L’INTERNEMENT POUR FAITS DE RESISTANCE (French Republic Medal for Deportation and for Internment for Acts of Resistance) above a Cross of Lorraine, symbol of the Free French, with Paris Mint bronze assay marks; on original ribbon for Deportees (that for Internees having diagonal stripes).

The Medal was instituted on 6 August 1948 to be awarded to those who qualified as deportees or internees for acts of resistance. On 6 January 1955, an amendment allowed its award for similar acts during World War I.
