Circular white metal medal with eyelet for ribbon suspension; the face with the Florentine Iris (Fior di Giaggiolo) imposed on a view of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, Florence; the reverse with letter ‘M’ centrally within a laurel wreath and six gladius swords, signed ‘MOSCHI’ (for the great Italian medallist and sculptor Mario Moschi, 1896-1971), circumscribed ‘VECCHIA GUARDIA FIORENTINA LA COVO’ and dated ‘31.3.XVIII’ (31 March 1940) below; on original ribbon.
The Medal was awarded to members of the Florentine Old Guard to commemorate their visit to the ‘Covo’ (hideout) of Alessandro Italico Mussolini (1910-1930), brother of Benito Mussolini, at 35 via Paolo da Cannobio in Milan.
