Circular silvered bronze medal with loop for ribbon suspension; the face with a Polish eagle perched on an Amazon shield imposed on a map of Poland, circumscribed ‘ZA ZASŁUGI DLA OBRONNOŚCI KRAJU’ (for Merit in Defence of the Country); the reverse inscribed ‘MINISTERSTWO OBRONҰ NARODOWEJ’ (Ministry of National Defence) and circumscribed POLSKA RZECZPOSPOLITA LUDOWA (People's Republic of Poland); some wear and discoloration to the silvering; on the ribbon of the Medal for the Armed Forces in the Service of the Country. The medal was instituted by Act of Parliament of 21 April 1966 to be awarded to both military and civilians for meritorious service in, or in support of, the Polish Armed Forces. The medal was suppressed in 1989 and amended in 1991 after the fall of the Communist government.
