The Association was founded in Bucharest in 1927 with the aim of popularising flying. It acquired more than 40 aeroplanes and was active at the Baneasa, Clinceni Giulesti, Otopeni and Popesti-Leordeni airfields around Bucharest and elsewhere in provincial centres such as Alexandria, Cluj and Iasi. Romania had a considerable aviation industry in the 1920s and 1930s, employing more than 20,000 workers producing more than 60 (some sources say 80) different types of aircraft.
