The Medal was awarded on 6 February 2012 to those ‘having made an honourable service in military, police, prison, and emergency forces, or for outstanding achievement or public service’. In practice, this meant members of the Armed Forces, both regular and reserves, the Prison Service and Emergency Services with more than five full calendar years’ service on that date. Living holders of the Victoria Cross and George Cross and Members of the Royal Household were also eligible.
