Miniature oval silver and silver-gilt skeletal badge in the form of an oak wreath with a Tudor crown above, the initials ‘GRI’ (George King Emperor) centrally; the reverse plain with loop for ribbon suspension; height 23.62m (0.93 inch); on probably replaced correct ribbon with silver ‘TERRITORIAL’ bar. The Decoration was instituted on 17 October 1930 and replaced the Territorial Decoration, being awarded to the same criteria, namely 20 years’ commissioned service, time in the ranks counting half and service in wartime counting double. The first version bore the insignia of King George V and this was replaced by that of King George VI in 1937. In 1948, following the granting of independence to India, the insignia was again changed, this time from ‘GRI’ to ‘GVIR’. A very good example.
